Put a mini accordion file in your glove box to keep things organized: one section for Map Quest print-outs, one for directions to friends, one for insurance & registration, one for emergency phone numbers (towing, garage, etc). In the back you can stick some band aids, an extra key, nail file, or anything else that typically clutters up your console or cup holders!

Take Responsibility For Your Personal Safety At Work

DURHAM, NC May 28, 2009 — If your work takes you into homes or businesses, you and you alone are responsible for your personal safety. That’s the primary point Megan and Barton Cutter made at the May meeting of the North Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO-NC).

The best defense is a good offense, and that means preparing in advance for going into the situation, the Cutters explained. Ask questions before your first visit to find out more about the client, other people who might be present while you’re there and the location of the home or business. Once in the home or office, determine how many rooms there are, who is present and the location of all the exits and whether they’re blocked and/or locked. Dress comfortably and wear shoes you can run in should that be necessary.

“Awareness is certainly the key to safety,” NAPO-NC member Betsy Parks said. Parks owns Structure With Style, a Raleigh-based busines.

Megan Cutter, who has a black belt in Bujinkan Budo Taijitsu, demonstrated several self-defense techniques. She admonished attendees to run after getting away from an attacker. “The program was very informative,” NAPO-NC President Marsha Stayer commented. “I feel good that I can protect myself,” she added. Stayer also owns Apex-based Stayer Organizing.
